Different types of writings:

There are four main types of writing: 

1. descriptive writing

2. expository writing

3. persuasive writing

4.  narrative writing

Descriptive writing: is the type of writing in which the writer give the detail description about the event, character, place, and thing. The author explains it according to his own perspective. The main purpose is to help the reader to visualize the scene/personality/event , by using five senses( sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste). 

Descriptive writing is used in

  1. poetry
  2. journal/magazine
  3. fiction story/play/novel 
  4. diary writing
  5. describe the event


Expository type of writing

Expository type of writing; is a writing that base on fact, and logic. Expository writing explains a topic with general fact, and logic. The basic purpose of the writer is to give the reader knowledge, and information. For this writer elaborates the topic very well, so that the reader and listener can assimilate the knowledge completely. The writer does  not include, or impose  his owe opinion.

Expository writing is used in

  1. text book
  2. article writing
  3. recipe
  4. news stories
  5. technical writing
  6. business writing
  7. journalism
  8. essay writing
  9. instruction
  10. research

Persuasive Writing:

Persuasive type of writing; is the writing that persuades the reader towards certain idea. The writer tries to convinces the reader to adopt a certain point of view, for this the writer sets the ground to convince his reader/listener by using the logical and rational examples. The persuasive writing is also know the argumentative writing.

 Persuasive Writing is used in: 

  1. cover letters
  2. newspaper articles
  3. letter of complaint
  4. Advertisements
  5. recommendation letters

Elements of persuasive writing

1. Thesis statement:

 Clear and precise statement of the topic/issue

2. Supporting evidence:

Relevant and detail logical evidence in the support of your topic

3. Counter arguments:

Opposing evidence and viewpoints, which is against your topic should also be acknowledged, and addressed. 

4. Clear organization: 

A well-structure essay that presents the writer's position and ensures that all ideas.

5. Transitions: 

Meaningful transitions and strong connections between sentences that enhance the flow

Narrative writing:

Narrative writing is a type of writing that narrates, or tells a story, and a past/historical event with detail, and chronological order. The writer constructs and communicates a story complete with characters, conflict, and setting, whether the story is real or imaginary. Fiction and nonfiction writing are included in it.

Narrative writing is used in:

  1. novels/novella
  2. story
  3. poetry
  4. biography
  5. autobiography
  6. Anecdotes
  7. oral histories
